Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder: CBI Interrogates Former Principal Sandip Ghosh

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been probing the tragic rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. As part of their investigation, the CBI questioned Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the medical college, for the fourth consecutive day on Monday.

Dr. Ghosh had resigned just two days after the incident, citing moral responsibility for the crime. Despite his resignation, he was quickly appointed as the head of another medical college. However, the Calcutta High Court dismissed this appointment, stating that Dr. Ghosh should have been among the first to be questioned regarding the horrific incident.

During his interrogation, Dr. Ghosh was asked why the victim’s parents were made to wait for over three hours at the hospital after they were informed of their daughter’s death. The victim’s father, in an interview with NDTV, revealed that he received a call about the crime at 11 PM and reached the hospital by midnight, but was only able to see his daughter’s body at 3:30 AM.

The CBI also questioned Dr. Ghosh about his initial reaction upon learning of the crime and who he contacted first. Additionally, they inquired about the renovation orders for the rooms near the seminar hall in the hospital’s emergency building, where the crime took place.

The officers are scrutinizing Dr. Ghosh’s mobile phone records and WhatsApp chats as part of their investigation. Dr. Ghosh was previously interrogated for several hours on both Saturday and Sunday.

The 31-year-old doctor was found dead inside the seminar hall, where she had gone to rest after working for over 36 hours. The police have arrested a Kolkata police civil volunteer, Sanjoy Roy, for allegedly raping and murdering the doctor. A Bluetooth headset reportedly belonging to him was found at the crime scene.
