Indian citizens in Bangladesh have been advised to avoid travel and minimize their movement due to violent protests against the government’s job quota system. The Indian High Commission in Dhaka issued this advisory following the deaths of six people during the nationwide strike.
The advisory specifically urges Indian community members and students residing in Bangladesh to stay within their living premises. In case of emergencies or if assistance is needed, residents are encouraged to contact the High Commission and the Assistant High Commissions through their 24-hour emergency numbers.
The protests are centered around demands to abolish the quota system for government jobs, which opponents argue unfairly benefits members of Bangladesh’s ruling party.
