In a recent rally held in West Bengal’s Balurghat, Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over her stance on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), alleging that she is misleading the people of Bengal. Shah emphasized that the CAA law has been passed and urged refugees to apply for citizenship under it, assuring them that there won’t be any problems.
Addressing Mamata Banerjee directly, Shah stated, “No matter how much you oppose CAA, we will grant citizenship to all the refugees.” He accused Banerjee of not taking effective measures to stop infiltration in the state, asserting that only Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a BJP government in West Bengal can address this issue.
Shah highlighted the importance of stopping infiltration for the progress and empowerment of West Bengal. He claimed that Mamata Banerjee relies on infiltrators as her vote bank, implying that she may not take strong action against infiltration.
The Union Home Minister referred to the BJP’s success in stopping infiltration in Assam and promised a similar approach for West Bengal if the BJP secures a majority in the state. He urged the people of West Bengal to vote for the BJP to witness significant transformation and development.
Currently, West Bengal is undergoing polling for its 42 seats in all seven phases of the general elections. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Trinamool Congress won 22 seats, while the BJP secured 18 seats. The counting of votes is scheduled for June 4.
The remarks made by Amit Shah reflect the ongoing political tensions surrounding the CAA and infiltration issues in West Bengal, setting the stage for a heated electoral contest in the state.
