Google is making India a key hub for producing its Pixel smartphones, with plans to export these devices to Europe and the United States. According to a report by Moneycontrol, Google has already started trial production in Tamil Nadu with Foxconn, a major manufacturer of Apple devices.
The tech giant is set to begin commercial production through Foxconn and Padget Electronics, a subsidiary of Dixon Technologies. This move is part of Google’s strategy to leverage India’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which offers benefits for manufacturing within the country.
Key Points:
- Trial Production in Tamil Nadu: Google has launched trial production with Foxconn, marking the first step in making India a major export hub for Pixel smartphones.
- Commercial Production Plans: Commercial production is expected to start in September. Once the production stabilizes, exports to Europe and the US will begin.
- Collaboration with Dixon Technologies: Dixon Technologies will manufacture the base variant of the Pixel smartphones, while Foxconn will produce the Pro variants.
- Future Exports: Initially, Google plans to serve the European market with India-made Pixel smartphones. Over time, they will also cater to the US market.
- Low Domestic Demand: Due to low demand for Pixel smartphones in India, most of the locally produced devices will be exported.
A formal announcement from Google is expected in the second half of the year, highlighting their commitment to India as a significant manufacturing and export hub for their Pixel smartphones.
