Apple is reportedly developing a slimmer version of the iPhone, set to be released in 2025. According to sources cited by The Information, the new model, code-named D23, is expected to debut alongside the iPhone 17 in September 2025.
This upcoming iPhone is likely to be priced higher than the current iPhone Pro Max and may feature Apple’s latest-generation processor, possibly named A19. Apple is still testing various designs for the device.
The introduction of a thinner iPhone highlights Apple’s ongoing efforts to innovate its flagship product amidst stiff competition from brands like Honor and Huawei in China, and Samsung globally. In the first quarter of 2024, Samsung led the smartphone market with a 20.8% share, while Apple held 17.3%, according to the International Data Corporation.
Apple’s iPhone sales declined by 10.5% in the fiscal second quarter, totaling $45.96 billion. This potential revamp is part of Apple’s strategy to boost its market presence and appeal to consumers.
In addition to the slimmer iPhone, Apple plans to discontinue the iPhone Plus and introduce a more affordable successor to the iPhone SE in the spring of 2025.
This news follows Apple’s recent launch of the latest iPad Pro, which includes a new chip designed for artificial intelligence computing, as the company aims to compete with other Big Tech firms in the rapidly evolving AI sector.
