Microsoft is potentially developing a feature called ‘AI Explorer’ designed to search through any activity on your windows PC.
Over the past months, Microsoft has introduced various AI-driven enhancements to Windows 11, and now it seems the company is preparing to unveil a new feature known as ‘AI Explorer’.
Zac Bowden of Windows Central recently revealed that AI Explorer could be a key feature distinguishing AI-equipped PCs from their traditional counterparts. The anticipated Surface 10 Pro and Surface Laptop 6, set for release on March 21, are expected to be among the first devices equipped with this feature.
Designed as an advanced iteration of the Copilot, AI Explorer aims to enhance user experience by incorporating a built-in history function, enabling searchable records of all activities performed on the PC. This feature is expected to function across various applications, allowing users to search through previously accessed images, web pages, and dialogues.
Bowden notes that the AI Explorer app will have the capability to interpret imprecise commands such as “Find me that thing about dinosaurs,” grasp the context, offer task suggestions based on the current scene, and even initiate workflows and projects.
For instance, when a photo is opened, AI Explorer could present an ‘edit image’ button or provide suggestions such as ‘remove the image’s background using the Photos app’.
In addition to the AI Explorer, Microsoft is anticipated to introduce a suite of other AI-centric functionalities, including enhanced Windows Studio Effects, real-time live captioning and translation, along with gaming enhancements like upscaling and frame rate smoothing.
These features are slated for release in the latter half of this year with the Windows 11 version 24H2 update. However, it remains uncertain whether Microsoft will announce these upcoming AI capabilities on March 21.
