Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, expressed admiration for India’s advancements in digital public infrastructure.
Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, lauded India’s contributions to the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on Thursday, noting the exceptional work underway in the country. He emphasized the significant AI innovations occurring nationwide in a discussion with ANI. Gates specifically mentioned, “You have innovators like Nandan Nilekani who’s taking all that digital work and saying, OK, how does AI make that even better?” He also acknowledged groups such as Wadhwani and the IITs for being at the forefront of cutting-edge AI research.
Gates expressed optimism about India’s AI leadership, particularly in serving the underprivileged in health and agriculture. “In India, there will be a lot of fantastic leadership work in AI here. And when it’s helping the poorest in areas like health and agriculture, our foundation will be proud to help shape that and support it,” he stated.
The billionaire praised India’s advancements in digital public infrastructure, highlighting the country’s rapid progress in crucial sectors. He remarked, “The rate of improvement in many key areas is quite impressive. India is globally recognized as a leader in vaccines, prompting us to collaborate with local partners to develop numerous new vaccines. Additionally, a diagnostics industry has emerged from the efforts during the pandemic, where we are also engaging in partnerships,” he elaborated.
Gates delivered a speech to the students at IIT-Delhi, where he commended India’s AI initiatives. He expressed his fascination with AI, stating, “If I were a student today, I would be captivated by the enigmas of AI. It’s intriguing how we don’t fully comprehend even the systems that perform exceptionally well. That mystery would certainly attract me,” as reported by PTI.
He continued, “I believe you all have a promising future ahead. Regardless of your field – be it engineering, pharmaceuticals, or policy-making – the advancements in AI will present you with new opportunities and challenge you to deeply contemplate these novel systems,” Gates further remarked.
