Google is getting ready to make significant changes to its artificial intelligence (AI) models, and one of the reported updates is changing the name from Bard to Gemini.
Dylan Roussel, an Android app developer, has purportedly shared a company change-log revealing that “Bard is now Gemini.” This marks the introduction of a new model designed to compete with OpenAI’s GPT-4.
The change-log states, “Bard is now Gemini. Gemini offers optimal access to Google AI. All the collaborative features you cherish remain intact and are set to further improve in the Gemini era.”
The company, however, has not officially commented on the potential renaming of Bard to Gemini.
“We’ve also refined the UI to minimize visual distractions, enhance legibility, and streamline navigation,” as mentioned in the document.
The change-log indicates that Google will introduce voice chat with Gemini, along with a new “Ultra 1.0” model featuring “Gemini Advanced,” a premium plan providing ChatGPT Plus-like file uploading capabilities.
The Google document states, “Gemini Advanced provides access to our most powerful AI model, Ultra 1.0. With our Ultra 1.0 model, Gemini Advanced excels at intricate tasks such as coding, logical reasoning, nuanced instruction-following, and creative collaboration.”
Gemini Advanced is slated to evolve with upcoming months, introducing new and exclusive features. These additions encompass expanded multi-modal capabilities, enhanced coding features, and the capability to upload and conduct more in-depth analysis of files, documents, data, and beyond.
Gemini Advanced, a paid plan, is accessible in over 150 countries and territories. The Gemini app is on the horizon, with the initial launch focusing on English.
Google expanded the availability of Gemini Pro, integrated into its AI chatbot Bard, last December. It is now accessible in more than 230 countries and territories, spanning over 40 languages, including nine Indian languages.
These languages comprise Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, and Urdu.
